Haters

Why do people seem to relish in dissing celebrities? I mean like, right now, there’s all this talk going on about Kitty Kelly — gosh am I giving her free advertising? — and her recent tome about all things Oprah. Of course, from what I’ve gleaned, it’s mostly negative and dramatic – the kind of stuff that gets tongues wagging. (I don’t intend to read it.) Then there was all that babble about the Tiger in Wood’s tank and Sandra Bullock’s philandering hubby. Ok, I get it, gossip is juicy and gives otherwise dull people something to blab about, but what I don’t get is the level of false familiarity. Folks go on and on with their comments as if they personally know these people. They’ll spew out all kinds of hateful remarks as if these celebs did some dastardly thing to them or their loved ones. Why?

I know. It’s because people set celebrities on a pedestal, glorifying them on their way up, salivating over their popularity, and just basically idolizing them. But one mis-step, one negative report, sends these same addle brained fans into fits of disgust and loathing. Who in the hell are these people? These sweet and sour scrutineers?

I’ve never bought a fan magazine, nor have I ever purchased rags like the Enquirer. Well, I might glance at the inane headlines while checking out my groceries, but only to get my chuckle on. I get that celebrities give up some of their privacy by mere fact of their celebrity, but come on folks, they are still human, fallible, and no more subject to doing wrong than, uh, me or Y-O-U. Snap out of it! Go be your own celebrity.

I agree.
It’s not even about simply reporting celebrity news or celebrity gossip anymore (which I used to love), many of these sites and blogs (wait actually broadcast media too) are beyond cruel, nasty, and hateful.
TV media might be more subtle, but I don’t think they needed all of those specials on Tiger.
