I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m more than a little concerned about what our children are learning, in and out of school. I’m not talking specifically about educational institutions per say – goodness knows there are a heap of problems there – but about the myriad of influences affecting children, particularly the younger child. I remember reading something years ago that a six year old can be taught just about anything. A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G. It’s the anything part that has me worried.
I keep the TV on in the background in another room, away from my computer. However, this morning, I couldn’t help but hear a topic on that doctor’s show that really got my attention. Apparently, a 2nd grader reported to her grandmother that classmates had stripped and were performing oral sex. Second graders! They’re like, what? 7 or 8 years old?
This happened in January of this year, so in a sense it’s an old story, but the story persists even to this day. The teacher said he wasn’t aware of such activity. He has been placed on administrative leave while the powers that be investigate. Fine.
It shouldn’t stop there though. Those kids learned that behavior somewhere. Did they see someone in their home do this? Did they land on a sexually explicit site while clicking links on the web? Are they victims of being abused themselves? Who’s watching the kids?
Who’s teaching them?
